RISE FOR HENOKO
Documentary and Resources for Action

Henoko is the northeast region of the main island of Okinawa.
The ocean region is called Oura Bay.
Okinawa is in the Ryukyu Island chain in the western Pacific.

The Japanese and U.S. government are
destroying the ocean in order to make a new U.S. Marine Corps base.
In Henoko, Okinawan people have held continuous sit-ins to block construction trucks for more than 2000 days, led mostly by elderly war survivors fighting to protect the island and ocean.

Oura Bay is one of the most biodiverse ocean regions on the planet.
It is home to over 5300 species and 262 endangered species whose habitat will be destroyed with this base construction.
